چکیده

The Ludvigsen–Vickers and two recently suggested quasi-local spin-angular momentum expressions, based on holomorphic and anti-holomorphic spinor fields, are calculated for small spheres of radius r about a point o. It is shown that, apart from the sign in the case of anti-holomorphic spinors in non-vacuum, the leading terms of all these expressions coincide. In non-vacuum spacetimes this common leading term is of order r, and it is the product of the contraction of the energy-momentum tensor and an average of the approximate boost-rotation Killing vector that vanishes at o and of the 3-volume of the ball of radius r. In vacuum spacetimes the leading term is of order r, and the factor of proportionality is the contraction of the Bel–Robinson tensor and an other average of the same approximate boost-rotation Killing vector.

On certain quasi-local spin-angular momentum expressions for large spheres near the null infinity

The recently suggested quasi-local spin-angular momentum expressions, based on the Bramson superpotential and on the holomorphic or anti-holomorphic spinor fields, are calculated for large spheres near the future null infinity of asymptotically flat Einstein–Maxwell spacetimes. It is shown that although the expression based on the anti-holomorphic spinors is finite and unambiguously defined onl...

Conserved Quantities in General Relativity: from the Quasi-local Level to Spatial Infinity

We define quasi-local conserved quantities in general relativity by using the optimal isometric embedding in [28] to transplant Killing fields in the Minkowski spacetime back to the 2-surface of interest in a physical spacetime. To each optimal isometric embedding, a dual element of the Lie algebra of the Lorentz group is assigned. Quasi-local angular momentum and quasi-local center of mass cor...

Swimming at small Reynolds number of a planar assembly of spheres in an incompressible viscous fluid with inertia

Abstract Translational and rotational swimming at small Reynolds number of a planar assembly of identical spheres immersed in an incompressible viscous fluid is studied on the basis of a set of equations of motion for the individual spheres. The motion of the spheres is caused by actuating forces and forces derived from a direct interaction potential, as well as hydrodynamic forces exerted by t...

Optical forces and torques in nonuniform beams of light.

The spin angular momentum in an elliptically polarized beam of light plays several noteworthy roles in optical traps. It contributes to the linear momentum density in a nonuniform beam, and thus to the radiation pressure exerted on illuminated objects. It can be converted into orbital angular momentum, and thus can exert torques even on optically isotropic objects. Its curl, moreover, contribut...

Effects of Space-Time Curvature on Spin-1/2 Particle Zitterbewegung

Abstract. This paper investigates the properties of spin-1/2 particle Zitterbewegung in the presence of a general curved space-time background described in terms of Fermi normal co-ordinates, where the spatial part is expressed using general curvilinear co-ordinates. Adopting the approach first introduced by Barut and Bracken for Zitterbewegung in the local rest frame of the particle, it is sho...
